Volunteers from WWF Indonesia, the Indonesian government, and Indonesian Navy worked together to float the whales back to sea. Beached whales can normally only survive a day or two. Out of the ten, six were successfully rescued and released back to the sea—four others did not survive. It’s unclear why whales beach themselves, but it may be due to sickness, getting lost, confusion from acoustic interference, or as a sign of solidarity with a stranded pod member.
